About Me

Hi There!

“Chef, nomad, purveyor of good times and occasional gym enthusiast”

These words are ones that I’ve mostly used to sum up my food journey and life so far. But just like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, my real journey goes a lot deeper than I thought.

Born to Indian immigrant parents in London, England, the done thing was to become a Lawyer or a Doctor when I grew up. Neither interested me, so I ended up at university studying business and computers. After a few jobs in this industry, I knew I was meant to do something else with my life. I’d always had a passion for food since I was a little kid. In fact, it started with my mom and helping her prepare meals at home when I was 4. The process of cooking all these weird and wonderful vegetables, cuts of meat, grains, pulses, spices and herbs in a big pot, and making that into a meal, was fascinating to me. Mom would make fresh Indian breads like roti and naans daily. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was seeing all these cooking techniques first hand. Food became life for me without even thinking twice about it.

Cont'd

I enrolled in catering college in my late 20’s and worked every day on top of my studies in kitchens, hotels, pubs, catering companies, to absorb as much as I could. This food journey led me to kitchens across England and Canada from 1 star to no star. I've learnt a lot (and met a lot of interesting characters) and feel like I'm only just scratching the surface.

I'm hoping to inspire others to cook and challenge themselves by making new dishes and learning new skills. Unplugging from all our daily grinds and cooking a good meal with friends, family or loved ones. Getting around the dinner table and talking to each other, sharing stories, having a laugh over a good meal. Be it a humble roast or something more luxurious indeed. The choice is yours but I feel this is something that’s lacking in our modern world. We’ve all become so “busy” and forgotten the most important part of this life. Good food, good company and good times.

So don't stress, have fun with the process and enjoy your meals. Afterall, we should be able to cook a few basic dishes right?
